Maiden most definitely is one of the most mainstream classic metal bands, any metal band looks underground compared to Metallica

I've literally never heard Maiden on the radio, EXCEPT when BNW dropped and hype was through the roof for The Wicker Man.

"I've literally never heard Maiden on the radio"
lmao I hear them all the time. Just like it happened on Moving Pictures' thread it seems that radios in my country are better than I thought

Agreed. Maiden are incredibly huge in Chile, even the band themselves have noted that
They're actually overplayed in here, could do with a little bit of more variety in NWOBHM in our rock radios

Maiden are getting massive airplay, no doubt. But mostly on rock/metal radios. Metallica on the other hand were always present in extremely mainstream medias, you could hear Enter Sandman literally everywhere. They are kinda embraced by the pop culture as the non-pop popish thing.

Agreed. Nowadays Metallica is more a product rather than a band, but unlike similar cases like KISS, Metallica were truly awesome back in the day

Rich girls wearing flower crowns loved Metallica at our Lollapalooza
|

well that's because metal band shirts became a cool aesthetic thing to wear I wouldn't really say it's because those people liked the music (though they certainly may have)

I mean, everyone can wear whatever they want and it's not my business, but yeah I've seen Motorhead and Slayer t-shirts in... interesting situations.

Yeah, my 10 years old sis is always ironing her Maiden T-shirt, sometimes matching goes beyond music.

Maiden plays occassional stadiums outside the US. In the US, they dont stand a chance Faenrir
No. They USUALLY play in stadiums. Don't you have a clue? They're the biggest metal band, man. Metallica and Rammstein can't compare. So maybe in the US they have less fans but rest of the world they're much bigger.
