It's official: I love this album.

I think the problem is most of the people here overplayed it due to the hype of it being a Deftones album. Whereas I didn't like it as much the first 2 weeks of listening to it and just left it for a while. Upon returning to it a week ago, it clicked from the start and I'm loving every second of it ( Well, almost every second, still don't like Phantom Bride)

Yea I don't think this is bad at all. I like pretty much every track for better or for worse

I sure did not overplay it. Heard it 8 times (comnfirmed through last.fm, I'm surprised it's even that many times), just don't care for most of the songs. It just goes by.

Chino wrote this album with Sergio. I hope Steph writes the next one / they write it together. Also, as many others have already mentioned, the mix/master on this are terrible. I never understood why they did not keep recording with Nick Raskulinecz. He seemed like a perfect fit.

Considering lowering this to a 3.5, too many dud tracks to be considered excellent.

The only dud track is Phantom Bride.

Everything else rules.

Lol Phantom Bride is not a dud. If anything Rubicon is. I feel like the Deftones haven't really stuck a closer since the White Pony remaster with "Pink Maggit".

Riviere is the best deftones closer.

I guess I'm more of a big closer kind of guy. Instead, a lot of Deftones closers continue the mood of the album really well, but they don't leave me feeling like they blew me out of the water on the last track. "Riviere" and "This Place is Death" are good tracks, but I'd prefer something an epic climax to the ending, i.e. "MX" or "Pink Maggit".

Deftones closers always feel like they wouldn't work anywhere else on the tracklist.

That is true also, for me they just aren't as memorable as some other band's closers.
