I understand that you are averse to the vocals, but of all Death albums, this is the most unique sounding. But altogether, Symbolic and Human are basically on the same level for me.

This was my first Death too. I wanted to get into the band and I decided to start with this one because it was the only Death album to get a perfect 5/5 star rating on Allmusic, so I guess I figured best first? Idk but as soon as Scavenger began with that drum solo, the twisted time sig main riff, and the inhuman screeching vox, it was like "holy shit, this is something else"
