I don’t care if whether it stays or not. I just think it’s a pointless microgenre, lmao
|

Why is it pointless?

Digging: Government - Shitshitshit [japanese death poem]
lol based

"It’s such an umbrella term because no matter how different each band is, if they have those off-time chugging breakdowns then everyone will start calling it djent anyway. It’s such an inconsequential way to categorize a bunch of bands"
How is that different from any other genre? The sole purpose of genre tags is to help people identify and find bands with similar musical elements. Djent is no better or worse than any other genre tag. If you like djenty guitars here are some bands that use them in their sound. Boom, pretty simple.

THANK YOU. JESUS, it's really not that hard to comprehend, it's a necessary thing, just like any subgenre of any genre ever

not to continue this stupid discussion further, but I've always seen it that if the chugging breakdown/beat is the backbone of the song, it's djent 🤷♂️ i guess that's being too general tho, I never thought that it was
even if a lot if the bands given as example can't fairly be categorized as djent, most of em just kinda suck anyway
|
| |
Lol, I don't know if categorizing them is fair or unfair. People just need to know that it's okay to like djent and you don't have to go and invent a whole sub-microgenre (progcore) that has the same genre tags as djent (progressive metal + metalcore) just to explain why you like certain djenty bands but not others even though all sound pretty obviously similar.

asking alexandria, first few devil wears prada albums, i the breather, crown the empire, the word alive, the plot in you, etc.

All of their songs are rooted in chugging breakdowns, but I def wouldn't call any of those djent

see, that's what I mean. I dont know anymore bc there is enough with that kind of composition that I wouldn't call djent that I'm starting to see your point. At the same time, there's so much similarity that it feels like splitting hairs

what is more djent: Scent of the Obscene by Sikth or Merdian by ABR huh
also Pika have you jammed Seiko Oomori's glam/power party metal album yet?

I have not jammed any Seiko apart from the latest one. Pirating her music is a royal pain in the ass, can't even find it on soulseek.
