This album actually helped me get into drone music so perhaps it's a bit more of an aquired taste more than anything

Yeah I'm just a generic sputnik pleb, I embrace it though.

TVC I doubt this is really an acquired taste as it's one of the most revered albums of the last 30 years.

Acquired taste means you gotta try it a bunch of times to start to enjoy it, didn't mean what I said in a "holier then thou" way... Saying it's revered by alot of people doesn't mean it isn't an acquired taste, you both implied it meant youre either gonna like it or you're not.

True.

In fact I'm gonna delete my rating for now and some my mindless babbling since I've really only listened to this like 5 times and spin it more before I make my final judgment.

My question for you though SpaceMan is do you think it is an actual acquired taste?

@boney I'd say it is just cause it's very loud and over saturated at the first few listens, a lot of the songs definitely grow on you. My favorite is Come in Alone and I thought it was annoying and repetitive af first time I heard it.

yeah my opinion on this now and the one from my first few years of hearing this are radically different. i used to think this was pleasant and just okay and my favorite track was Only Shallow lol

Ironically I was actually struck and kind of underwhelmed initially by how soft it is, everything I've read makes it sound like this is like harsh noise or something (exaggerating a bit) so I was kind of surprised to find how most of the noisy stuff is very much in the background on a lot of the songs so it doesn't actually sound like there's a lot going on.

Pretty much anything can be an acquired taste if you're not used to it. This is no exception.

@Key, Yeah I've come to appreciate the noisy bits a bit more with each listen.

The noise is definitely not in the background at all

The album wouldn't be half as good as it is if the noise wasn't as constant and overpowering as it is, the reason it works is because they blanket the melodies more than sophocate them, so the melodies are always palpable and they never get lost
