I don’t give a shit what jesse did or didn’t do, but I do have a significant investment in the image of the band Brand New, which is why anything he could have done to potentially ruin that image has negative utility to me. Not being able to see the farewell tour was negative utility for me. Not a single thing that came from this was positive utility. Therefore, I cannot be happy with this, and I yearn for a way to derive positive utility somehow and feel awful about how I could not prevent the negative utility action from occurring.

Apart from it's impossible to form an accurate image of the band without engaging with those actions (especially given how cogent they are with the psychology prevalent in a range of their lyrics). No, I totally do. But, they only affected his image because they were publicized. That’s the part I care about. If he had done it secretly, it would still be disgusting, but at least the rest of the world wouldn’t know about his disgustingness.



Obviously, the ideal situation was he never did any of this in the first place, but if he had to have done it, then the best thing he could have done was at least ensure it never got out into public consciousness.
