Just listened to this album for the first time, and I am thoroughly impressed. I actually had to take a break from listening after the first two songs because I was so overwhelmed by the artistry I had just encountered that I needed time to process it before going back in! Even the best moments of BWP, while fan-freaking-tastic, didn't have such a huge impact on me. The album slacked off in quality ever so slightly after "The Moor" and "Godhead's Lament" left their mark (though "Moonlapse Vertigo" is almost as good, and the mind-boggling meter shifts of "Serenity Painted Death" and the faster midsection of "White Cluster" were individual highlights), but it still made for a unique and thought-provoking listen.
I'm going to dish out a relatively low rating for now to compensate for the fact that this is just my first listen, but still... DAMN.
