We all do, my friend, we all do.
It's only natural to try to convince everyone to like an album you love, I do it all the time.

'Your major flaw on this (in order to like it of course) is over-analysing it technically and simply refusal to enjoy it artisticaly..me.thinks'
I think my major flaw was thinking revisiting the discog at the same time as getting into this one would help the process.
It just made me want to listen to their better albums and showed up which old songs they're taking the riffs, guitar tones, vocal melodies and drum rhythms from on this one.
Listening to the old stuff has made me appreciate Tool a bit more and appreciate this new album a bit less than I would have otherwise. Maybe. This album just isn't exciting to me, there are some good parts of songs

yeah I mean, when coming back from work in the afternoon, doing some stretching, relaxation and focusing on yourself and the music, this really helps you to calm down and get lost in the music. That shows me that this record is definitely having an effect on my well being which I can not say about a lot of records.
I agree that there are some parts that drag a little and seem to go nowhere from time to time but overall this is a pretty compelling and enjoyable experience.

Yap...though it sounds like Tool there s definetely a different goal and dynamic here. One can call it contemplative, other boring. All I can say with relistens is that this has like an HD attention to details, like no other Tool album (artistically I mean) always adding and layering stuff riff to riff.
This year I ran their entire discog before attending to their massive show...best live show I ve ever seen...and then again when they reached the apps. So everything is fresh here as well.

Your major flaw is leaving the opportunity, for the obvious Lateralus over thinking over analysing reference, behiiiiind.
Tsk tsk.

They were unbelievable at Download fest earlier in the summer, they need to hurry up and announce the European leg of the album tour.

Man...I practically stopped listening to Tool..was kind of underwhelmed over the years (LQ youtube and non approachable attitude made me sick of it)...but that show (self show, not in a fest)...holy macarroni...sure restored my oxygen...and this album was the perfect complement. 2nd fave right here.

I think Tool is a lot cooler live than on their records

This album is good (at times great) but it lacks variety in the sense of shorter, more punchier songs. If there were 3 or 4 songs in the vain of aenema, parabola, vicarious, 46&2 in place of 1 or 2 of the longer songs this record would be a lot easier to sit through. As it stand, it drags slightly with all proper songs over 10 mins.

Sometimes it's tempting to state your opinion before realising that it's already been done, in a significantly more eloquent and coherent way than you could muster. Fair play Johnny.

'in the sense of shorter, more punchier songs.'
I have 3 criticisms of the album (all nitpicks really);
1. It's over produced and a bit dry
2. There are a couple of spots that are really missing some strong vocals from Maynard to enhance the climaxes of songs (Culling Voices and Descending primarily)
3. CCT should have been a short punchy song in the classic Aenema, 46&2, Stinkfist, Schism sense. To have waited 13 years to only get 6 real songs makes the experience feel a bit short changed and having a song that's super intense but short with minimal build up whould be a nice change up on the album imo.
These are the 3 things stopping it from dethroning Lateralus imo.

@Sitar ok gonna pull a totally open agree to disagree here (which I think means you tag me out of the thread and get to take my credit and +1s); Jones is defo tight as a rhythm player but there's only so many times I can stand his straight-up transposition of various Iommi riffs into complex meters ;]
