I like Risen more than the last part of Contretemps. I mean, that song is fucking awesome, but the outro is quite a step down imo.

a couple melodies here sound like older BTBAM, i guess Rolo has toured with them so maybe took some inspiration

The most 'generic' song here is a toss-up between Aftermath and Whispers, both of which are great in their own right. Alma Mater sounds like a less bleak version of what they were doing on Grievances - that is to say it's a style they've very much made their own by now.

Hahaha I thought exactly the same man! Yeah, it didn't do anything for me at al, sadly. Didn't like the synths and got some undesirable London Grammar vibes sometimes. Willing to try again later though, since everybody enjoys the crap out of it.

The Dillinger comparisons are wasted on this tbh. Grievances aligns with them pretty closely, but I went into this expecting a frantic math-fest and ended up thinking it was a carefully considered post-rock album
