Is that a b-side? I've got the special edition but didn't bother with the second disc yet because the first was so underwhelming.

Wow, song rules hard! Why wasn't it included on the actual album, to cut through the overtly serious slog of the rest? Like River and Burden and even Slither did? This album takes itself way too seriously.

It was intended to be a bonus track from the beginning so Mikael had no pressure at all. If the song sucked it didn't matter. Opeth needs this kind of fearlessness again for the actual records

Yeah, totally. I think that's part of what's missing here. I mean, I can imagine it must be pretty stressful with such an amazing and universally praised back catalogue to change direction entirely and find a new sound, but I do hope they find some fun in their music again

told ya dude. the chord progression, the harmonies, the blues licks under the chorus, the guitar solos, and the keys to close it out are all killer.

Exactly. Loved the ending a lot. Whole song slays. Groovy and funky. Wouldn't mind if they incorporated more of that in the next one.

Thanks for the rec.

Fleeting Glance, Era, The Ward and Spring 1974 are my favs. Still a disappointing album by Opeth's standards

Hope the next album is more exciting tbh, this has a few dull moments scattered about.

They need to fix the production for the next album (no more cardboard production). The return of some death growls and death metal would be appreciated as well.

Eh the return to DM will never happen now.

Wilson needs to get back on production though, definitely.

Yeah, production is its main issue. The music is ok to alright, but they have definitely done a lot better. Something along the lines of Heritage would make me a happy man

Heritage mixed with some Ghost Reveries-esque riffs would be a 5/5.

Yeah I think we need to accept that DM Opeth is gone. A creative prog album of similar quality to Heritage will do quite nicely.
