Yeah, great jam...even if the outro rips off Harlequin Forest hard.

Album has aged well tbh.

I don't see a rip off tbh. What exactly do you mean?

Actually he quit smoking several years ago which might have affected his ability to growl. If you quit smoking your voice usually tends to become less raw and raspy which definitely makes it harder to pull off that evil growling like he used to do.

What on earth is wrong with red wine?

alcohol dehydrates your vocal chords. That's why alcohol is bad for your singing, you want to be warm and moist

Don't we all...

I also think that 20+ years of growling as insanely as Mikael can't be good for your vocal cords and throat, that might have something to do with it.

If he really desired to want to perform better live (growl wise) he'd get a vocal coach.

Age and longevity is obviously a factor but no doubt he could improve if he consulted a professional.

Agreed.

I think 'we here at Sput' are quite picky as far as Opeth's concerned though, 'the masses' don't really care/don't even notice it I guess.

'alcohol dehydrates your vocal chords'

Holy moly, if only they knew, I bet all rock/metal vocalists would stop drinking immediately.

Well, no, they should do what they want. If you want to keep your voice healthy and have a long career, you probably should avoid unnecessary damage though or you'll run into problems

It's better than a concoction of hard drugs, at least a wine drinker would probably be alive for enough time to have a long career.

I was being silly, it just seems bizarre to criticise a rock/metal vocalist for drinking wine when it's not exactly the worst thing a lot of them partake in, haha.

Still love Eternal Rains the most here. Very nice track. Elysian is also great.

Love River, Moon, Faith and Voice too. Not too big on Goblin and Cusp though, and some parts of the others are a little annoying.

Cusp is great live but, as a song, is bland.

Agreed hard, it slays live.

Bland for them is disappointing since almost no song of theirs has been bland for so many years.

The main riff sounds like a modern Dream Theater riff, pretty lifeless.

Voice Of Treason rules m/ The double base part gets me every time, it's a very unexpected thing and yet makes so much sense

Yeah, track rules. This has some very nice moments, like all of Eternal Rains.
