It irks me so much that the album isn't on spotify. Guess I need to find a youtube stream or something, but I'm not fond of those

Tool are above the digital way of getting music, you need to get their CDs at some point. Some of the best album packaging I've ever seen.

for a band thats so against piracy and hugely into artistic visuals and packaging, they need to fucking press their shit on vinyl

I'm not dropping $40 for a picture disk that probably sounds like its covered in sand or a weeks pay check on aenima. all i have in undertow on wax and thats arguably their weakest lp

I've always loved Undertow more than 10,000 Days but that's certainly the majority opinion what you just said.

yeah I can understand that, its not a bad album by any means. but justin is just sex on bass and makes a huge difference in the band. paul had some good grooves in undertow but chancellor is really good at working with the band's rhythm section as opposed to just writing cool basslines. plus their musicianship is insane on songs like vicarious

Oh absolutely. Justin is a beast and it's crazy how the guitar and bass can easily be confused with each other sometimes. For a while, I thought the the intro to Schism was all guitar, but nope!

"For a while, I thought the the intro to Schism was all guitar"

I think every tool fan goes through that phase lol

Well how I found out was watching them live. All of the sudden Justin starts playing that part and my whole perspective of this album changed and I was like "HOLY SHIT that's Justin?!" lol

Haha I know I went through that phase. 10X Days is definitely better than Undertow

I'd put 10,000 Days over Aenima tbh. Great album

And yeah learning Schism on guitar/bass definitely makes you see the song in a different light

Aenima is the only Tool album I really enjoy, the later albums sound like a mix of new world zen spirituality and MTV music video sheen in comparison to the scathing tone of that work - I can tell they're technically decent stuff, just don't get the blood pumping for me

I suppose to these ears this album marks the transition of James Maynard Keenan sounding like the sort of guy who'd enjoy pulling off your finger nails with a pair of pliers to the sort of dude who'd light a joss stick and teach you pilates

Paul D'Amour's bass tone is unreal, almost industrial.
