Frankly the only Metallica album with consistently audible bass is The Black Album. I'd say the only song that suffers in any way without bass is One but even then if you got the bass cranked up on a good system or at least have some esrbuds with good bass on you can hear the bass well at least 25% of the runtime

And disagree hard, if you hear a version with Newsted's bass actually being audible and you realize how much better his bass lines would have made this album, while Lars is the loudest thing here, then I don't know how you would not prefer that

I was very much used to And Justice for Jason before I bought the CD and started properly listening to the album. Having become so familiar with the basslines it's easy for me to pick out the basslines, they just don't stick out like they should because of the total lack of low end and because of how low they're mixed in.
The only Metallica album where it absolutely bothers me from the lack of audible bass is S&M. Jason displays so much intensity and passion in every song the band performs there and I could only consistently hear him on Call of Cthulu and that goes for both the vinyl and the completely uncompressed audio of the DVD

Idk about still falling. The recent singles have been pretty decent imo. Whatever they're cooking up will never touch Justice, or any of their first 4, but I predict it'll be a favorable listen.
