He had to sing on The Final Cut, that album wouldn't have been anywhere near as effective had Gilmour sung it.

His vocals really fit the more aggressive style of Animals. He was still a bad singer.

Oh yeah I agree that he was great on the Final Cut but he fucking sucked on the Wall.

i'm just playin :]

Agreed, Rowan.

Lol Roger Waters knows to write a fucking good song, so he thinks "What should my next move be? How
about taking away singing privileges from the TWO BEST FUCKING SINGERS OF ALL TIME and doing it myself
instead, even though even I realise I'm not that good!"

Yeah dude I mean Gilmour dominated their post-Syd, pre-Animals material so at least he generally got to be the main singer of the band, but Wright only singing on the few songs he did is one of the greatest fucking musical tragedies I know of.

Still, mad respect.

I can respect that because I really like Barrett's voice too, but for me it doesn't compare to Wright's. Wright's is just melancholy incarnate and it's fucking beautiful.

In terms of vocals:
Gilmour > Wright > Syd >>>> Waters

can you imagine syd singing welcome to the machine that would be so fucking sweet

I love to imagine shit like that but then I realise that if Syd were still... functioning and in the band for this, most likely they never would've written Welcome to the Machine :/

As bad as it sounds, Syd leaving the band was the best thing that could've happened to them.

there are no weak spots on this

@avon Yeah Syd was a legend but they needed to get rid of him to progress into what they did, it's such a shame though.
@Fourth I agree with them, it's leagues away from being bad but every single song on here is just so goddamn perfect that there has to be a weakest, and imo Machine takes that cake.

Well Dave annihilates in every song he lays down vocals so just picking one favourite is impossible for me. But Have a Cigar has one hell of a guest spot and the cynicism is just brilliant, Crazy Diamond is one of their best epic tracks and is a damn nice tribute to Syd and the t/t is legitimately the best song ever. Whereas Machine, yeah the vocals are fantastic and the synth is great but that doesn't make it better than Floyd's usual standard of amazingness.

I'd go: Wish You Were Here - SOYCD XI-IX -SOYCD I-V - Have A Cigar - Welcome To The Machine.

I agree with avon's ranking. Fourth, I respect that man, and I'm not saying it's subpar at all - I do have this 5'd. It's just that, even with Floyd, there has to be a best and worst song, even if the gap between them is small.
