I think we can all agree spiritual healing is incredibly underrated within their discog

Ouch. Oh well. I'm probably wrong because I'm one of 10 people in the world that like The Last Jedi. XD

It kind of is but at the same time, it's by no means a highlight of its respective year.

Killing spree might be one of their best songs

Yeah it's hard to put Spiritual Healing on a top 10 of 1990 because of how good the other metal of that year was in comparison. Still a great album though.

"No, it sounds like an above average prog metal drummer with two guitarists vainly attempting to be clever when they really aren't."
Yeah, fair enough. On top of that it has that borderline awful Painkiller cover.
"I think we can all agree spiritual healing is incredibly underrated within their discog"
Ehhhhhhh... I guess? I've only listened to it once but I didn't like it as much as... Almost any other Death album.

I find the whole idea of death metal somehow killing thrash in this period but the early to mid-'90s was probably as much of an artistic boom period for that particular subgenre. What's more amusing is that bands like Atrocity were actually making excellent prog/tech death but were the one band that went collectively ignored by most, even today.

There's no topping the original "Painkiller," but I think Chuck nailed it. Those screams and shrieks are so badass.

I never listen to the painkiller cover. Just the first 8 songs

It is the worst part of the album despite Chuck's awesome performance on that song.

The Painkiller cover is abysmal and I think most of the praise it gets is due to people's sycophantic deification of Chuck rather than anything resembling actual enjoyment.

Probably not a bad idea.

Painkiller cover rules you guys are so annoying holy fuck. Go jam your obscure prog thrash and fuck off.

Hawks, much of prog-era Death is Chuck aping obscure prog thrash bands with varying degrees of success so your whining is legitimately misplaced.

I like the way the drums sound too. Punchy and sharp. m/
