I want to like him more. Like I said, I still dig him, but I want to dig him on goat level. It just hasn't happened

It kinda just depends on what you listen to hip hop more for. Like if you dig a lot more east coast boom bap stuff over g funk then you prob wouldn’t dig pac’s core material as much as a west coast fanatic like me.
Here on the West coast pac is that guy and since he often talks about California I could see where a barrier comes up in connecting as much with him if you’re not from here
Think that goes for a lot of west coast stuff too ngl

I need to rerun Tupac, it's been a while since I've listened to him. I've listened to his most acclaimed stuff a couple of times, but I could only give All Eyez on Me a 4.5. Which is a fantastic score. But conversely, Ready to Die got an insta 5. I want to think of Tupac as a goat but rn I don't think he has any perfect records. It's an open end.

I feel like it would be a bit silly to say you can't connect with Pac because he raps about California when he also raps about being a gangster and people wanting to shoot him and what not. Most people can't relate to that either. I think it just comes down to people liking or not liking his vocal style

I will say it's probably been a year or so since I jammed any pac at all. Should probably change that anyways

Well I mean just that aspect. I know I definitely connect more with rappers talking about California than New York being from California myself.
But it’s different than connecting with the gangster stuff. The gangster stuff is something he grew up around and so he tells stories about it and you can only really relate to it if you had the same experience whereas California is a place you can just go to and experience yourself

@million idk his final 3 are pretty flawless for me although the retail version of Killuminati is a bastardized version of its initial incarnations. Even down to the name of the record it’s a mistake it was supposed to be “Makaveli The Don - Killuminati: The Day Theory” but death row was fucked at the time with the artists starting to leave and suge being in jail.
Look into the “Uncut OG Platinum” edition and “The 3 Day Theory” version of the Killuminati album they're superior with the former having different mixing, track order, and some different samples and the latter having a different track list, order, and mix.
And then the original versions of the songs from Until The End Of Time are phenomenal as well. And this album is from the Killuminati era it’s crazy how much he recorded in 96

Honestly I don't connect with much rap at all, I think the fantasy element is what draws a lot of people to it. Nothing better than listening to 21 Savage call someone a pussy 30 times and detail how he's gonna murder them while on the way to school or your 9-5 lol

I enjoy lyricism and stories being told, but ultimately what I listen for in hip hop most is probably good beats and a cool vocal aesthetic. My favorite rapper is probably andre 3000. He could be rapping about microwaving a fucking tv dinner and I'd be entranced just cuz I love his voice and delivery.
I haven't gotten that with pac, and I'm not sure why and I can't put my finger on it. I'm still kind of an entry level hip hop listener tho so maybe I'll come around idk

I mean yeah listening to Spice 1 talk about murder for 16 tracks in a row is unrelatable but it sounds great with the beats and his voice. It’s not that different from a gangster movie it’s entertainment for us. The ones with more variety in their gangsta rap topics like mc eiht, e40, ice cube, etc are just telling their own personal stories of the life and experiences they’ve had to go through.
You don’t need to relate to it to process it and feel something deep about it

that's odd dude cuz if it's 1 (or 2) thing he's got going for him it's vocal delivery and good beats. I guess u just don't dig it as much

Ima be honest I didn’t dig much pac outside the first three tracks from aeom and matw when I first started listening to him. I thought he was totally overrated but after some months I started really getting into him

Yeah like I said I'm just not a fan of his delivery, or at least wasn't when I used to jam him. Maybe my preferences have changed.

Nah drifter youre definitely right about 2pac pioneering new rap, especially the dichotomy in the streets between good and evil and everything, which transcended beyond the gangsta rap into all streams of rap. And yeah calling rap fantasy music a little cringe ngl
