JT are there any alt prog bands that you like better? personally, i don't think anyone really does or can do the style that PT put forth on this album and the other newer ones.

Gazpacho are more bearable for me (although admittedly quite different) but I'm certainly not a big fan of them either. Heard some Pineapple Theif and would definitely rather listen to them than some PT albums like Fear of a Blank Planet.

Good choice anyway. That or Someone Here Is Missing if you want something less melancholic

But seeing as you're into PT, melancholy and Little Man should be right up your alley

this sounds a lot more like anathema than it does PT. not complaining, just an observation after the

first track

First 2 and the last 2 are the ones to really check out if you get bored somewhere in the middle

I find the post-Signify material more palateable than the pre. I have to be in a certain mood to enjoy the prolonged soundscaping while later PT fits my attention span much more snugly. Opinions, I guess.

Their earlier stuff is more trippy, psychy and atmospheric while this and on is focused more on lyrics, concepts and heaviness. And the in between stuff like SD and LBS are more accessible so it just depends on what suits my mood at the time.
