well there's that whole "music is subjective" thing so it doesn't matter

if you're gonna try and act like the two albums got even remotely similar critical and societal reception then you're just being disingenuous

metacritic is unreliable anyways, there are better sources for that shit

I'm not even talking about my own listening habits, you cunt funnel. I was specifically talking about this album's reception versus that awful FPS record
|
| |
it's almost as if it has nothing to do with the quality of the music and the music industry cut fps because he was only a burgeoning singer/songwriter when the allegations came out vs. brand new being an alternative powerhouse with a diehard fanbase when the allegations against jesse came out
the reason that there are still fans of this band in the first place is because of how much of a household name they became in rock music from this millennium

Brand New only became an alternative powerhouse by releasing acclaimed album after acclaimed album. FPS was seen as a joke even before he got caught doing the illicit shit.
In fact, you'd think given how much of a darling Brand New was, there would be more of a safety net preventing any bad news from leaking out. Lord knows I did my part to suppress it. I just wish I had more power to save them.

FPS never would have a Brand New-sized fanbase unless he somehow completely changed up his style and shook the world. At the rate he was going he was not going to be taken seriously an artist anyways.

like, I could see an argument if you're talking about Sorority Noise, Jank, Tiny Moving Parts or Pinegrove (as overrated as I think those first two bands are), but Front Porch Step never had the potential to be anything close to Brand New level.

nah fps was fucking horrible but again why does the quality of the music matter when it comes to grown ass men being creeps
|
| |
when are these absolutepunk scrolling twerps gonna grow up and adopt a "separate the artist from the art" philosophy? these artists eat sleep bleed piss and shit the same way that you do and they should have the same level of punishment and disregard as the old pedophile down the street
they're musicians not fucking superheroes

That was pretty much my point. The quality of the music is irrelevant to wether or not someone deserves a platform. If musicians aren’t held accountable for what they’ve done, then we're allowing this to keep happening. It’s just a shame that people feel they can pick and choose who to support and who to drop. Like the Moose Blood allegations weren’t addressed for ages as fans just allowed them to get swept under the rug every time they got bought up, and it took Good Charlotte (who aren’t saints themselves considering Joel Madden dated Hilary Duff when they were 25 and 16 respectively) kicking them off their tour for the band to realise they couldn’t get away with this shit.

Yeah, agreed. Until there is evidence that the victims have received justice and Lacey has genuinely changed for the better I'm not going to be supporting any further projects. The problem is when you're frowned upon if you still listen to and enjoy their music.

My take: Jesse is a piece of shit, this album is still top 5 all time. Hot take I know.

"Until there is evidence that...Lacey has genuinely changed for the better"
what evidence is there that he's guilty of any similar wrongdoing for the past, say, 15 years? Like idk what kind of evidence you want, as far as I can tell he's nothing like he was back then

Perhaps. I'd be more inclined to agree if the apology, if you coukd call it that, wasn't so flimsy. I'd honestly be happy if one of the band members came forward and said that he's paid the price and is/has become a better person.

That 'apology' was complete horseshit. It was pretty much 'I was a horrible person and a sex addict, feel sorry for me' and didn’t address the fact that the victim was underage when the abuse started, not to dissimilar to Front Porch Step's approach Of ‘I abused several underage girls, but it’s okay now because I found Jesus'

"and didn’t address the fact that the victim was underage when the abuse started"
publicly admitting this is the dumbest thing you can do, even if it sounds nice from a moral standpoint. he would effectively be incarcerating himself by saying that on facebook. his apology basically attempted to say "it's true" but without putting himself behind bars. because let's be real, nobody benefits from that. A man's life would be ruined and his family torn apart for something that he fixed long ago.

or you could simply torrent if you don't want to support him financially if you're that desperate to prove how much of a morally unbankrupt person you are

Even listening to it on my iTunes library would make me feel a bit dodgy, especially with some of the lyrical choices (i.e. all of Me vs Maradonna Vs Elvis, and a line from one song on YFW that says 'What difference does this difference in age make, I know how it ends').
Even though he didn't say she was underage, the apology was all full of self pity and was basically screaming 'FEEL SORRY FOR ME FOR BEING A TERRIBLE PERSON!'
