"I can see how you feel that applies to MJK, but to Jones?! Whaaat? How is he an obnoxious celeb and how is his performance here subpar?!"
Sorry I think my phrasing was messy - only meant the celeb stuff re. Maynard. Jones' performance is far and away the worst part of it for me though - those guitar tones are trash and his pentatonic 101s are not in the least interesting. He's never been a flashy guitarist and I've never had issue with his work in the past, but to be playing an active regression on relatively simple parts 13 years later on what is essentially a jam album is plain embarrassing. I could write a whole review dedicated to the guitars here and am vaguely tempted to, not even for shitpost value but because it irritates me that much - but resisting for now ;]

Dewi, yeah you turn 40 and it’s battle stations, a hangover is a 24 hour trauma, a comedown would probably finish me

I'm only 25 and hangovers are already 24 hour traumas...

Finishing this listen and Tempest has propped up the 2.5 rating - can’t go beyond that, album is just alright by their standards or rock music standards in general

I somewhat agree about the tones, but I gotta hard disagree with the other stuff. His playing has always been much more rhythmically focused than melodic. So even though he has never strayed from the pentatonic in his career some of his rhythmic work on this album is imo his best. My feeling on every listen has been that he leveled up on this album.

This is my feeling aswell.
Don't say that DDD, I like alcohol too much, don't want the hangovers to get any worse >.

really started to feel hangovers at the age of maybe 25 or so. Worst thing is that your sundays are completely wasted and you don't really get the time to relax.
Always prefer weed when it comes to hangovers compared to alcohol

Don t know dudes...take a walk...see the trees...smoke a joint, have a glass. Idk, I feel this as a more restrained but contemplative exp....

It definitely benefits from some dim light and some doping but the mundane riffs still pop up here and there and some of the lyrics are really off-putting at times.

Your major flaw on this (in order to like it of course) is over-analysing it technically and simply refusal to enjoy it artisticaly..me.thinks

Agreed Dew...but there s a "let yourself go" attached to this. Kind of mantric session, that is no often happening in the metal scene. In here we like to think...and many times we just overthink.

The major flaw is that this record just isn't worth a 5.0 for everyone
|
| |
Yeah I mean, I can let myself go for a bit but after a while I already wanna go back lol
I said it way back but I miss the bile and the rage that Aenima and Lateralus had.
