Really dont see how this is fresh at all. You can trace this back to lots of noise/post-hardcore(the dissonance of their mathcore roots) /industrial. Hell, the first track is a blatant tribute to Martin Rev.

They combine their influences well though. (as good albums do) Much less contrived sounding than their early albums

I was under the assumption this was as bad as swans

Imagine loving neurosis and giving Souls at zero a 4.5 but not seeing any value in swans

I think it’s perfectly fine to love Neurosis and not Swans, different bands. I don’t place ‘value’ on music, just enjoy listening to certain artists/albums etc. and not others. There’s no grand equation to work out based on any other factor inc. influence, legacy or the like.

They have an awful lot in common. Its not a matter of legacy or objective value.

They have similarities if one chooses to see that, sure. However, they’re not so remarkably similar that liking one and not the other should appear unusual to anyone.

The only early Swans album I like is Filth tbh. But I'm not the biggest punk fan so whatever.

This is as good as the worst Swans album.
