The drumming is wonderful, Bryan kills as always.

The band have changed towards this.
The show I watched supporting TWFM was 10/10 - the most important gig of my life for a number of reasons but the band were phenomenal. Best performance I’d ever witnessed, truly transcendent and gutsy too.
Then I watched them in support of SWB and four of the songs from that fell really flat live and overall the band had lost their spark. A 7/10 gig ‘just for the hits’. Was a bit sad.
This album - from what I’ve heard - is going to be fucking sad as far as I’m concerned. Hairpin Turns sounds as boring as the worst songs from their debut - with added female duet cheese.

Agreed on the TWFM tour. 2014 show is still my favourite of all time. You think they slipped that much? I missed them on the SWB round and was devastated but maybe I shouldn’t be have been.

Guess I won't be the only who'll be 1-ing this bitch.

It has a lot of Matt's absolute best lyrics and The Pull Of You has one of his best chorus melodies of the last decade

Doof wtf are you talking about hairpin turns is the only good single I've heard off the new album and a damn sight better than anything here.

@Slex Eh, I certainly wouldn't go that far. That's not even a top 5 on the record for me. I think once the dust settles it'll be a 4. Above the debut and Sad Songs but perhaps not as splendid as everything else.

The lyrics for Not In Kansas, T/T and Light Years are some of his best lyrics for me personally
I also think it's better than this

quiet light is so good. roman holiday is excellent too. rly wish the album didn't open with you had your soul with you, that has to be their weakest opener ever.

I actually really dig the opener. It gives this album a way more propulsive vibe from the get go than SWB. Way nicer than the single I think.

barring the opener, the first handful of songs are all infinitely better than anything on this imo.

on not in kansas which kind of sucks. quiet light is amazing, so was roman holiday and oblivious. i've been zoning out most of the rest so far, nothing nearly as memorable yet

Not in Kansas is not good at all. Not sure what they were going for there.

it sounded like a cheesy lullaby almost. really couldn't stand it. so far so fast is redeeming the album atm tho.

So Far So Fast definitely redeems it. I'd say my top 5 so far is:
Rylan
Oblivions
Quiet Light
Where is Her Head
Hey Rosey

those are probably my picks as well. i know everyone seems to love where is my head but it kind of just passed me by. i'll take a closer listen next time. dust swirls kind of sucks too. it's getting better but the first minute was so annoying

I really like the opener too, don't quite get the heated disliked of that one.
