90% of kanye's lines are bad though tbh. Just cuz he's being himself doesn't mean they're great. Dude's a production genius but he needs to be kept away from the mic, or the pen at the very least

Tiny bit baited, maybe.

The first time I listened to Yeezus, I hated it, pretty much for the same cringeworthy type of lyrics that are on this album. After several listens I contextualized them in what the album was trying to do with its production and beats. It feels like he puts a lot of work in the latter so that no matter how ridiculous the lyrics get they seem to make sense to me and come off as self-aware.

Also (edit) it's fun to watch the music of Kanye progress with his antics as a personality and his supposed ego... it's pretty strange and entertaining *but* I guess simply "grooving" to an album goes beyond any comment on a thread.

I feel you on the Yeezus thing. Plus I feel like lyrics like "I just talked to Jesus, he said what up Yeezus" just work way better over those beats because most of them are equally preposterous (in a good way but also in a literal way).

I agree that the Yeezus beats may have worked better with how bluntly stupid the lyrics are, but for me this album has a feeling of reflective solemnity (I think it's the layered production and especially the stacking of vocals) that shine that "Wow this is way over the top" idea through a different prism.

poly -- if that is your real name -- I have a genuine question to ask. How many times have you listened to this piece of trash album?

The album is holy, god damn it! These are the sounds of a man whose entire life has become a contradiction, who yearns for faith and depth in life while surrounded by surface-level beauty and emptiness.
