I mean I would consider Pots' take to be positive spin if anything so your trust is well-placed

Well, he explicitly told me that it sucks in comparison to the two I mentioned but yeah, I'll give it a shot xD
But if it's sonically destitute, don't expect anything other than a 1 from me < 3

Insta-2, although I wouldn't hate on the fandom (if you can call it that) - the reasons it speaks to people so strongly are very, um, obvious. And that's cool?

Indie folk of the 10s is a travesty, let's be honest here.
Sure, people are free to like w/e they want.

let's get pots's bitch ass in here right now
if anything is an "acoustic campfire" album, it would be one of the two you mentioned. the reason some people avoid Crow is because it's depressing as fuck, not because it's a mumford and sons campfire singalong

Don't care for the lyrics if there's no ambiance. Singing sad things in a sad voice over generic acoustic guitar chords is boring af.

"Indie folk of the 10s is a travesty, let's be honest here."
Travesty is a strong word but as far as reactions to depression and political bullshit go, it sure ain't punk rock (to which end this is dope and your 1 is evil)
And yeah agreed Butt, campfire in the usual sense is the wrong word for it, although I can see that setting applying to it in a very specific, solitary context

the song Ravens has an incredibly rich atmosphere and is an autumn favorite of mine. I can't remember if you like Chelsea Wolfe, but if you enjoyed her new album at all then you would at least like Ravens

Okay, I did like the new C Wolfe very much. I'll check that then, cheers.

The sight of your body made me feel uncomfortable
I couldn’t recognize your shell...

Wasn't sure whether you'd dig this Boney, pleasantly surprised by how you seem to be receiving this :D
This year two old friends of mine died five months apart - album took on a whole new meaning for me after that
Top 3 emo from what I've heard in the genre

trace the roots back to the ground, work out the knotholes for yourself
the way the verses lead in to the chorus in that song is just divine

Dyl, yeah I go back and forth on emo, sometimes it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth and usually takes quite a bit of time to grow on me... This though is pretty special. (Awful to hear that by the way, but I totally get how this album would take on extra significance in that situation.)
Do people have recs for other emo like this? It's definitely a hit or miss genre for me but when it hits it hits.

I'm not sure how like this it is, but Mineral's The Power of Failing is even better imo. Scrappier and grungier, but that lends it a fair bit of charm to my ears - and despite being an emo album, it is capable of giving me a euphoric rush like few other albums can. Its opener puts a big dumb smile on my face every time.
