I mean, not enjoying her, great. That's your opinion. But why would the medias attention play any role in that. Maybe you are paying to much attention to the media?
"I don't know guys, the fact that everyone is watching football (no it's not called soccer you peasants) right now is totally killing my enjoyment of the games, guys. But I'm not a edgy contrarian kiddy, I promise!

"I think the problem with Lorde is that she's ONLY good at being different from other acts. Nothing else really. Like, if I was just getting into music Lorde would be amazing, but right now I'm not super impressed, probably a 3.0 tbh"

pretentious has to do with how things come across, not seeing pretentious considering she's a teenager writing teenager lyrics, really

I enjoy the overall pretty cohesive sound of this very much, it's pretty mature (and sincere) and much more of an real album than most pop efforts. I also think the lyricism is a cut above most of her contemporaries as well. Even though they are "teenager lyrics" I think she has a knack for describing feelings and situations much better, and let's not pretend that most other popstars are even trying to tackle anything than: Breakup, Love, Dancing, Sex and having a lot of money or wanting to have a lot of money. Her singing voice leaves something to be desired, but at least she isn't overproduced and showy as fuck. The first half of this is really, really good. The second half is slightly better than average.
I also think "Ribs" is one of the best/most touching pop songs of the last 10 years.

"Uhm Royals is literally a song about pretending not to be a fan of flashy stuff that people dream about, which seems like a "im super mature" concept"
not really, she just ain't interested, the reality of most teens

@ Asdfp: I can't stand britney
@ ALA: "She contradicts that in the first track"
This whole contradiction thing isn't really much of a sticking point imo. This is not a concept album. "Royals" can describe a certain feeling/phase of here life, while "Tennis Court" is describing another feeling. Many albums have Love songs and breakup songs or happy songs and sad songs.
