i never know how to feel about this album.... Individually It has some of my favs by them, but it just really lacks variety as a whole. Like they were a bit uninspired and didn't have a ton of ideas to bring to the table.

kinda valid take, it’s a homogenous mess, but a beautiful homogenous mess nonetheless

Hexagram and Minerva are top tones
Album is messy and more uninspired in places than anything pre-Gore for me

Nothing uninspired here. But understand having a hard time with the flow of the album start to finish. It’s dark, dense, and doesn’t hold your hand

I had a better time listening to Diamond Eyes, but it's not bad either.
Chino still had a good voice when recording the album, but I feel like some of the songs would be better put in a b-sides compilation or a special edition of the album.
I like Deftones when they yell in a horny and depressed way, not screaming tho

it's def a mixed bag but there's not really anything on here I actively dislike
flow's def kinda weird, plays more like a b-side collection than an album. but the tracks themselves are all pretty high quality. also kinda blows my mind how much "Lovers" just kinda fell through the cracks, one of the best from this era

Hexagram, Deathblow, some of those
All of the songs hear don't compare to Be Quiet And Drive (I haven't listen to all of Around the Fur) or Diamond Eyes

none in particular, that was more a statement on how this one doesn't really "flow" in the way White Pony or ATF did, doesn't feel as singular almost like a collection of leftovers from the last few eras. There are a few exceptions, but the a lot of it to me sounds like White Pony leftovers w/ darker production (not necessarily a bad thing)
as a whole album it's not as much of a grand step forward from the last album like WP was from ATF, or SNW from this one even, & it doesn't really have the singular identity that those (& most of their albums) have. that's how it's always seemed to me, at least

Needles and Pins, Minerva, and Bloody Cape
Bloody Cape I think is their best song on here

the take about there not being "variety" on this one is baffling to me
that's like this thing's most blaring quality, tbh. and contributes to the "collection vs album" feeling, though there are at least 2 I'll admit have always sounded very similar to me - gun to my head I don't think I could ever tell you which one was "Deathblow" & which one was "Battleaxe" without at least a 50% chance of mixing them up

Variety it does have, I will admit

it’s so funny to me that you guys are saying this album has variety but to me this album has the least variety aside from adrenaline to me at least
|

honestly white pony's flow aint much better than this when you really sit down and compare the two. it's just more accessible

White Pony is the Nevermind of Deftones’ discog
A bunch of good songs that work great as singles, but really don’t flow together as well as their later albums
And my bad art I must’ve just misread
