@tommygun Okay On the Run I can understand, it does get a bit boring, and first two minutes of Time maybe, not cos they're bad but just cos I want to hear Gilmour and Wright's sweet sweet vox. But how can you even skip Great Gig?

first two minutes of time is just ding dong clocks and after a few dozen spins it wears pretty thin you know?

great gig I thought was cool first few times but I just got sick of it quickly

depends on setting like if I'm jamming in the car I'll skip it cos I don't have the patience while driving but if I'm chilling at home at night with the right lighting and mood I let the whole thing play through cos I'm more receptive to it

yeah I appreciate the cleverness of what they were doing but doesn't mean I always enjoy it

I barely listen to this anymore anyway cos I overplayed it at first cos it was my first floyd album and I was like OMG WHAT IS THIS CRAZY WONDERFUL MUSIC

the reprise in Time kicked me in the balls the first time. I heard it while trippin with a few buddies and someone wanted to play DSOTM in its entirety. before id only heard Speak to Me/Breathe and Brain Damage/Eclipse so I freaked the fuck out thinking id imagained half the album and that we werent even done with the first song haha

'this album was like the soundtrack of my childhood so i'll always love it yet be sick of it at the same time'

This hard.

When I got into the album myself in High School, I remember thinking it was a big deal and I was really excited to delve into it. Then I realized once I started listening to it for the first time then that I already heard each song plenty of times even though I didn't remember them with the exception of Time. That song and Riders On The Storm were my favorite songs when I was really little. They were just so out there and deep emotionally, they sounded like something out a dream to me then.

I had the (dumb) fortune of never having heard this album until I was in my 20s. But it's honestly been my fav album since

then (6-7 years).

I can see people skipping on the run. Obviously the weakest track on the album as its not even really a "song" but I

appreciate what it does and I still never skip it. So I can see people's thoughts on that.

But great gig omg. That's one of my fav parts of the album. I guess I can see people not digging that as much either, it

doesn't

really "rock" or anything. First 5-10 times I listened to this, I didn't really like it either. But then the more I listened, idk, just

some unexplainable beauty and amazingness abt the song hit me hard. I love the fact that there are no lyrics, and I still feel

this song harder than pretty much any other song. I FEEL it maaaaan

it was just odd of them to put On the Run before Time which opened with a long interlude and also preceded a Great Gig which kinda brings Time and Money together like an interlude. Idk just my thoughts

I guess I'm not as attached to this cos I didn't hear it til I was 20 or 21 and the only song I recognised was money

Great Gig is amazing and has so much emotion. That girl really let loose. She did it perfect on her first take if I remember right, but she was afraid she sounded bad actually. I think I also heard that she was crying afterward because of how much emotion she let out.

@wack Yeah I think that's right, and she offered to record it again more toned down but the Floyd loved it so yeah. and @SpaceMan I know what you mean, I love where Great Gig is placed, IMO it's the perfect middle section for this album, but On the Run doesn't fit before Time - matter of fact, On the Run doesn't fit anywhere on here. I kinda wish they hadn't made it.

@Rowan, cool I'm glad I remembered that correctly. Yeah your right, she did offer to re-do it more toned down. I'm glad they keep the original it's perfect as is.

It's just so cool how so many parts of this album were winged and turned out amazing, like the synchronizing of the clocks and rogers waters creating the coin and cash register sounds for Money on a tape recorder out back in his shed.

@Wack A lot of Floyd's music seems to be like that, not just on this album. Like David plugging in his wah-wah pedal backwards and finding that "distorted seagull" noise that they used on Echoes. They seemed to have a lot of happy accidents.

I remember hearing that as well..really interesting. They invited Clare to record that song with them and they didn't even know what they wanted her to do with it. They explained the concept of the album to her but as far as recording that song, they just winged it. They were kind of just getting a feel for stuff during their first session and Clare completely improvised her entire wordless part of the song. Then after the take she was embarrassed like she thought she had gotten too carried away or something but the band was amazed and wanted to use that exact take.
