I have been drenched in stoner, doom, and retro releases for so long that I haven't been listening to anything else really. But it definitely rules.

Ugh. The vocals on this album are pure, unadulterated shit.

It seems that a lot of cynic fans were disappointed with 'Traced in Air' upon the first week of its release. Now i hadn't even heard of the band yet (only three months later!), but the amount of arguments regarding cynic's latest turn was staggering. The album itself however, i couldn't have been happier than to realise that Cynic were, once again, proving themselves to be truly in a field of their own. The beauty of each song in its own relative way contributes to the power of the album as a whole;the fact that it leaves you wondering what happened in those 35 minutes, other than the dizzying sonic magic unravelling itself in songs as diverse as 'The space for this' and 'King of those who know'. There may be considerably less brutality here than on Focus (which i still prefer marginally), but it never gets overused or indeed exaggerated;there is the perfect balance. The performance of each particular instrument doesn't need any long description. Let's just say its cynic doing what they do best.

this has really grown on me over time. first few times I listened I barely liked it at all. lots of cool riffs in here though. vox are pretty good too.
