And it's not that Wilson "isn't the best lyricist ever", he's actually really fucking bad at times and sometimes seems like one of the worst ever.

that's hyperbole bro

No redeeming qualities in the later era? Come on Jamie. I know you really don't like PT that much and I respect thatbut none?

That's very hyberbolic if you ask me.

I did say "pretty much no redeeming qualities", Wilson's production is one quality I can't deny, but what I mean is there are no qualities that can make up for what I dislike about their post-Signify material and therefore none that I would really call redeeming qualities.

What do you dislike about post signify material again?

i think that what it ultimately comes down to (please correct me if i'm wrong) is that JT and maybe some others just aren't really into the genre of music that PT plays on that later albums which would make it pretty hard for them to find any enjoyment in it

Mainly Wilson's song writing and everything about it just seems bland to me.

It's true that I generally don't like the sort of alt-prog style that PT play (on their post-Signify albums) but it's really Wilson's take on it that I don't like, something about his more song based material (as opposed to the more instrumental based psych stuff of their earlier albums) really rubs me the wrong way.

The only real difference I hear is that some parts of the songs are heavier sometimes

lol, you serious?

The fact that they played a completely different style/genre of music and were much more instrumental based doesn't seem like a difference to you?

EDIT: just read your following comment, never mind.

JT are there any alt prog bands that you like better? personally, i don't think anyone really does or can do the style that PT put forth on this album and the other newer ones.

The Pineapple Thief is as close as it gets to the alt prog PT style in my opinion

There's more of a focus on mood with them, which I really dig but they definitely require more listens to PT
