Just download the album somewhere if you don't wanna support em.

Did that last time. That's definitely a much better idea, but at the same time I'm usually very wary of it these days.

Then why mention ad rev? You gave it a 4 so clearly you like it enough to not throw it off your PC.

Because nine times out of ten, if I pirate an album these days, I'll usually remove it afterwards.
That reminds me, I forgot to chuck Amo off this thing after finishing my review, and that's a 3.5 for me.

That's understandable. I'll usually do the same with leaks. If it's an album I love I'll delete it and buy it at some point (streaming it in the meantime) and if it's one I dislike to the bin it goes.

@Lucman: Yeah, I have maybe four, five albums pirated still? Technically a couple of them don't count as my extended family owns the hard copies to them (Tool's Ænima and Foo Fighters' Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace) but the others are either embarrassingly hard to find (No Sun Today by Grey Daze and A Prelude to Our Demise by 3 Mile Scream) or albums that the band themselves recommended pirating (Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence). Aside from that, my entire library these days I've bought or had gifted to me.

Honestly all this drama surrounding Jesse is making me wish I had gotten into them earlier.

"And yeah, you just have basic-bitch (by Sputnik standards) 5's instead."
Damn...

I mean, to be fair, his Turnover 5's the closest he has to a "hot take" in that list. I say that VERY lightly, because that one was still praised to hell.

I just wish I had given it a listen before I found out about this whole thing with Jesse Lacey, and I think that definitely fucked with my ability to enjoy the album in full. I'm not about to go to Sophie's Floorboard every time I want to listen to Devil & God, and I'm not about to funnel ad revenue into Jesse's pockets. So my best option is to just avoid it for the time being.

@Uzu: and manually scrobble every time I want to listen + turn adblocker on... ok
@Alex: nine times out of ten I don't pirate anymore unless it's a leak of a new album. Also, do you seriously not know what Sophie's Floorboard is?
|
| |
Why would I know that? Anyway, make Brand New one of those one out ten records you pirate, like, why wouldn't you?

@Alex: Mostly because I've got plenty of other music on the backburner already, tbh. That and I'd probably get a used copy so I don't feel like as petty of a thief.

Sophie's Floorboard is a great place to discover a ton of obscure emo artists. If they're on Google Play I rarely download them but it's def worth a look.

So you don't want to support Lacey, but at the same time you feel like "as petty of a thief" if you pirate his music?

Yeah, I used to use that regularly when I was looking into older 90s emo stuff.
