The modern day emo/metalcore hybrid is a perplexing genre. On one hand, most of your self-proclaimed music aficionados will say that metalcore is pure poop for the ears, the musical equivalent of inhaling thousands of farts at once. They're correct. But why then do those same listeners love metalcore that is tinged with a bit of that goofy emo/post-hardcore vibe. I have to applaud bands like Counterparts and their countless peers for cashing in on the sea of dupes with the sound of their poops, because bands like these have tapped into something interesting - they have discovered how to garner hyperbolic critical acclaim while sounding just like bands like Motionless in White, Falling in Reverse, and Bring Me The Horizon.
