[2] to Clay

@TVC Bellamy is a strong vocalist I'd say, the man is capable of some jaw-dropping moments (Showbiz title track, "Micro Cuts")

I don't care how impressive songs like Micro Cuts are from a technical standpoint, they sound like shit

"he's a great singer but crosses into histrionic wankery much too often"

A bit yeah. I like him most times but sometimes he overdoes it. Micro cuts is a good example yeaj

@poly I often dislike vocalists who are technically great too, I feel like the greater the technical the less raw emotion vocalists tend to show

I think I agree with you Boney, I can certainly see how too much focus on being a hysterical opera wannabe would take away focus on the meaning / lyrics

Some of my favourite vocalists aren't 'good' singers at all e.g. David Yow, Ryan Lott, Jeff Mangum, Efrim Menuck, arguably Joanna Newsom too

I respectfully disagre tbh but I understand where you're coming from. I think Matthew does portray a lot emotion in the band's work, not just "vocal wankery" like a lot of you guys think

I haven't heard Muse so I can't judge Matthew Bellamy's vocals.

But like for example people always go on about how amazing Freddie Mercury's vocals were and from a technical standpoint he was amazing I wouldn't say I really like him a whole ton as a vocalist (that said I only know the popular Queen songs so maybe I can't judge fairly).

Freddie is fine imo because he fits the type of music they play perfectly

I'm not really a fan of their style anyways so that doesn't really help me I guess.
