"sure they can meander esp. now ("it's free jazz maaaan") but Turner definitely went harder and heavier with that vehicle than most of ISIS's moments."

The purpose of SUMAC's existence IS to go HARDER and HEAVIER than ISIS. At least from what Aaron has implied in interviews. Really, when it meanders far too long for me, it has more to do w/me not being in the right state of concentration of deep listening and not any of shortcomings the music might have objectively.

I don't know man, if i wanted something heavy i would go for something like Meshuggah, old school Mastodon or even Death (yeah i know they got pretty melodic later on)

I could have namedropped lots more, but that was only to emphasize that they don't click with me. Period.

Hall Of The Dead is an incredible song. So many layers, so much atmosphere.

Actually the first 3 songs might be the greatest run of first three songs in music history. I’m not over exaggerating. Seriously.

Not that's in the genre. For me maybe like, Pale Companion/Odal/Wooden Doors (The Mantle) or Leper Affinity/Bleak/Harvest (Blackwater Park) or Burning Skies/Dead Oceans/Cold Becoming (The Destroyers of All).

dbizzles had a good list on that. Truthfully my favorite run might be from Panopticon but I chose a set from Wake/Lift.

Still think this review is utterly perfect and couldn't describe the album better. I like Hand of the Host or 20M/40Y the best. But they're all immaculate.
