"I'm on Enemy of the Sun. Don't think I'll be sleeping tonight and yeah this is already kicking my ass."
Enemy Of The Sun was my first Neurosis album. Believe it or not, my school at the time had the CD of it in their library and I remembered borrowing it and couldn't sleep that night after listening to it, hahaha. Took a long time for it to really sink in though.

Without question, Neurosis is my favorite band. But I'd be lying if I told you I liked them right away. I pretty much disliked everything I heard from them on first listen...EXCEPT for The Eye of Every Storm. Maybe dislike is a strong word, but just indifference or even disappointment. This was really the only album that hit me on first listen. Usually takes years for any of their albums to really click with me. But man, when they do, there's nothing better.

I would suggest digging into their live videos on YouTube. Seeing them live in person would obviously be best, but just seeing videos will give you a good sense of their intensity. Actually seeing them live is really what made their albums click with me. Had no idea that these guys, particularly Scott Kelly, would perform with such intensity. While the sound quality on this video is pretty lousy, I'd suggest watching from start to finish:

"I'd be lying if I told you I liked them right away."
I felt the same actually. I don't think "disliked" is the right word, but rather the feeling of not "getting" the music/atmosphere (I had the same experience w/Cult of Luna too). It definitely felt overwhelming for me at first but once I gave it time eventually it all clicked for me.
I was lucky to see them live once. Consider myself lucky to even see them live again this August.

I'm crossing my fingers for them to play a song off this album when I see them in August. IDK I think I might just bawl if I ever hear No River To Take Me Home or the title track live.
