Demon if it helps clarify, my bringing this discussion up was initially just an attempt at using sputs own rating system and lots of peoples obsessiveness about rating down to a decimal point against Johnny to agitate him into admitting that this is a classic and then it spiralled into a legitimate discussion lol

“What the fuck are classic albums, anyway?”
Just a loose off the cuff descriptor for me would be culturally, socially, politically (etc.) impactful albums or genre/generation defining masterworks that withstand the test of time and remain significant to music history in a considerable capacity
which makes the concept of “modern classics” predictive rather than absolute

TPAB is 7 years old and the third highest rated album of all time on RYM. so I would say 7 years is long enough

TPAB is gonna reach #1 eventually and people are gonna be so annoyed, but like who gives a fuck

“ How modern is too modern to not just be predictive”
10 years? 🤷♀️
I can think of 2000s albums that I consider definitively classic but not so much 2010s albums just yet
What do u think

honestly TPAB is better than OK Computer and Wish You Were Here so I'm not mad at it taking #1. it's an amazing album

Sometimes albums hit me as a classic on first listen instantly but yes 2000s overall better than 2010s yep
|

totally, I think it’s a bit case by case, some albums immediately strike me as obvious modern classics and that holds up to be pretty evidently true in even a handful of years, others might not be so obvious

Cosmogramma is a good example of an instant classic, it was pretty obvious that album was going to have a lasting impact
