Aw c'mon now, Wreath is a hell of an opener

can't jive with that especially considering how good their openers always were

Wreath works very well as an opener and has an amazing beginning and an even more amazing finale (when the "wreath" goes full circle), but the middle is one of those "draggy" parts I talked about

Yeah the middle drags but the beginning and ending of that song are some of the most mosh/headbang worthy opeth parts ever

Yes! One of my favorite moments on this album: "... returning ..." and BAM the intro riff comes back in, first the guitar, then the rest and everything explodes.
Awesome.

agreed, definitely one of my favorite parts on the album
Master's Apprentice is king though

'can't jive with that especially considering how good their openers always were'
For an Opeth opener I agree it's mildly underwhelming but I mean, look at the competition, they might have the best collection of opening tracks in history. Yeah, I went there.

I might agree with that.
Concerning Master's Apprentice, I find the first third to be extremely tiresome (both musically and lyrically), then it gets better and the last third is the best thing ever 10/10. So I'm a bit torn on the whole track.

The whole album is killer honestly, and the title track doesn't get nearly enough love.

Opeth’s chords are so weird, really hard to get down most of their material.

title tracks really cool agreed

First part of Master's Apprentices suffers from the Deliverance syndrome of beating every other riff into the ground. Still a great song though and the way Wilson's section abruptly transitions to Mikael's is the most appropriately jarring thing ever
