Because her voice and lyrics on this album are tacky as hell, and the guitar is basic and amateurish in a “this person has a very surface level understanding of the guitar” way not a “talented musician showing restraint” way.
and this might be a hot take but uhhh lyrics matter in pop just like everything else? Just because the point isn’t to expand the mind or tell a thought provoking story doesn’t mean that pop doesn’t demand lyrics that feature tight rhythms and appeals to the emotions.

if there’s a positive to this album it’s the arrangements of the individual songs. There’s some interesting production tricks and synth stuff outside the voice and guitar. To me it’s like trying to make a dish with a nice array of spices and seasonings, but the main protein is past its shelf life

Went for a run and re-listened to Brat yesterday, and then this. I get Brat's popularity is somewhat tied to its impact in capturing a global mood, and there are 5 or 6 great tracks on it, but overall, the songs on Music, Fashion, Film are just better.
Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this is better than Brat, but I'm not alone (even in this thread) in thinking Charli has made something great here.
I have never heard anything quite like this, and I enjoy every track.
