Lol I almost said "Do what, acid?" but I talk about acid too much so I left it alone.

Late to the Mars Volta party but never late than never. I bought the DeLoused in the Comatorium, played it once and put the CD back in the case, not to play it again for a few years. Being the obsessive collector sort, I bought all the subsequent releases as cheaply as I could but didn't bother to play any of them. OMG. What was I doing? This music is fantastic! It defies any category. I love prog but this is so far beyond prog.
And as to Amputechture, Tetragrammaton and Day of the Baphomets are outstanding, in a non definable way. There's an Italian band called Ephel Duath who come close. But not quite.
Digging: Amputechture.

Have you listened to Deloused again? You should. Also Frances the Mute.

Anyone ever notice how (thematically) similar the first part of Tetragrammaton sounds to Close to the Edge by Yes? Maybe I'm just crazy but I'm tempted to say that was a deliberate shout-out.

People saying this is their worst just have no idea what they're talking about tbh. been spinning this a lot recently and jon theodore is fucking brilliant on this album.

this has some of their best songs (tetra, day of the baphomets), but it's also got a ton of tuneless bullshit that i always end up skipping.

I like it but not as much as the two before - maybe on par with TBIG. I don't like the vocals as much and the last song just goes nowhere.
Having said that, Day of the Baphomets kicks ass.
