Yeah, I guess I probably agree to some degree re it missing something super heavy. I saw Brent in an interview just recently say that he much prefers singing and writing melodies so they may continue with this less chaotic style moving forward. The man writes amazing riffs, so I'm not too disappointed with that haha

not surprising, i actually think this is a cool direction to go in. hope the next one they push the boundaries a bit more. needs a bit of unpredictability in the structure. would love if they went more proggy or experimental.

They def strike me as the type of band to keep trying new things. Hoping this more commercial style gains them the fan base they deserve

It's kind of funny to me watching people react to this and thinking it's not super chaotic and heavy as hell still. Struggling to pick out a favorite of this album but today it is Show me where you are

Yeah, some of the melodic sections definitely feel more accessible/broader, but to claim that they've "gone commercial" kinda raises an eyebrow. None of these tracks are gonna show up on my local rock radio station like the latest Deftones.

I'm sure not entirely directed at me but I certainly wasn't saying it's mainstream perse, just more accessible/commercial than their previous stuff. Either way, I'm loving it lol

i mean technicolor blues kinda is commercial song, but a fantastic one at that

The front half of this album still gets pretty chaotic at times. Maybe there is a bit more accessibility, but the thread made me think they were going to have gone full octane-core.
Really enjoying this album, but need to spend more time with it to hone my feelings.

Hopping back in to note that it is a pretty baller move to release the closer as a single and for it to hit even harder in the context of the whole album. Tracking is v solid here but what a way to close things out!

Band makes me think a bit of Moon Tooth at parts on this and I mean that in a really good way.

i think every single song has a melodic cleanly sung massive hook. there is definitely more singing than screaming as a whole. less abrasive chaotic parts. i think it's definitely fair to call this more commercial. it's not a dig, it's just definitely way more mainstream for mathcore.
i could show my buddy who listens to some metal and he would get this. i couldn't do that for like etid or dillinger which he would say is just noise lol

The melodies and hooks mixed with the constant riff changeups is why I'm so often reminded of Fair to Midland.

Also calling this mainstream/commercial is not a stretch for this album. They're doing the melodic shit in a much more tasteful way than most of their contemporaries and it's def their most accessible release yet which is not a bad thing

i think people think mainstream/commercial is like a slur here lol. i get the knee jerk instinct because it usually is code word for awful but there's nothing inherently wrong with it. some bands sound even better when they get a bit more accessible. someone like dillinger got progressively more commercial and i think were mostly better off for it.

Totally with you dawg and agreed on Dillinger. The Callous Daoboys is another example for my personal tastes. The new record is their best work yet and easily their most accessible. I think some folks are just worried about their favorite band "selling out" which I get but also who cares if the tunes are good and they still have their artistic identity
