Hmmmm, don't really notice that much tbh.

I get wanting them louder, because they slay so much \m/

But I think the mix is pretty much perfect tbh

the snare and bass are too muddled imo, but the record itself is awesome

I love it when an album I already liked grows on me. This and the new Deafheaven are like a cold chilly night and a bright sunny morning, respectively. I can't separate the two, they've been regulars on my hiking playlists. What a great year for music.

MVP of this album is the synths. Really tastefully done but adds tons of depth. I even like the clean vocals now lol.

I completely agree. The synth work here is so subtle, but its so damn good.

The synth work on here gives the album an almost industrial tinge, really cool stuff.

This is their best album tbh, off the dome it’s certainly my favorite black metal record of the year. Borderline 5 but at some point I do gotta hit the lights, light some candles and read the lyrics while listening.

Disagreed hard, but the previous two are amazing too lol. Debut is still their magnum opus though.

I can see where Demon and Kusangii are coming from. Second listen also did not do that much for me, although it is still very solid. Feel like other records did more.

I can agree with demon and kusangii too. But Xibalba rules. This is still good imo, just not mindblowingly so by any stretch. You can always count on DWEF delivering solid output though.

Maybe because I'm not so familiar with their other work (or my threshold for being amused is very low), but if the Xibalba/Eos combo is not captivating enough, I don't know what is.

Their other albums are great - this is amazing in particular but their previous works are noteworthy.
