I just can’t comprehend liking this more than Ohms. What am I missing here? This is more boring than Gore. And Ohms was nearly perfect start to finish. Abe’s drumming is so generic here. And Chino’s voice does nothing here. 2 listens in and this is 10th out of 10 as far as their albums go.

And I'm over here with the opinion that Ohms was a monstrous, uninspired snooze-fest and this finally feels fresh for the first time since, yeah, KNY. Gore was even more awful for me too.

I’m seeing that opinion a lot lately but I dunno Ohms felt like one of their most complete albums imo. And the production was flawless. It was the first time I felt like every element had standout moments & all complimented each other perfectly.
I also think KNY is their most overrated album lol.

dif strokes I suppose, its all good. I've been of the opinion that White Pony is one of the most overrated albums of the last thirty years lmao. But I've also had a love/hate relationship with them since the beginning, so I don't throw that around that much - it somehow took the alt-metal throne over far more deserving albums and I held a grudge for a long time. S/T went a long way with me though, it took guts to release an album like that when they were poised to really take off.

Ohms is good, but it's definitely bottom 2 Deftones for me.

I have never listened to deftones. Is this an okay place to start or will I not get it? I generally prefer to listen to new releases before jumping into backcatalogues.

Might be Koi, Diamond Eyes and PM for my top 3. Time will tell.

@feather if you start here, i would keep in mind that this is pretty easily their least-heavy/aggressive album front to back, but otherwise more or less retains the same vibe of their 2010s material.

it's funny to look back at the ohms release, so many people glazed it simply because it was better than gore
diamond eyes/kny era had a whole other vibe going, the hype was absolutely insane

I'd honestly go chrono for these guys to see their evolution. Then again, I'd say that in most cases lol.

kny was at 4.9 for the first three or four weeks after 400-500 ratings

maybe i stan diamond eyes so much because i was 19 when it came out, but that album did wonders for pulling me away from listening to nothing but melodeath
but next to wp it's my favorite of theirs
