4. Mechanical Animals (3 out of 5) bit try hard androgyny but suits the album, also a bit obvious (I am a Space Oddity haven't you heard, what what)

5. The Pale Emperor (2.5 out of 5) harmless cover, not too Brian in your face

6. Age of Grotesque (2.5 out of 5) again, he's blurred, thank god

7. Portrait of an American (2 out of 5) looks cheap, bargain bin'ish

8. High End of Low (2 out of 5) never listened, is this more Depeche Mode or synthy as that is what I'm being sold?

9. One Ass Under God Numero Uno (1.5 out of 5) - at least it's a painting and not a photo as...

Marilyn Manson shows the dangers of complete nerd wish fulfilment - he believed his own hype, probably thought he was untouchable and I'm sure there was something akin to a god complex going on.



A mid 30 something year old powerful 'professional bad man' nerd dating an 18 year old, it always had the potential for domestic issues, psychological bullying and worse.

I tended to believe the Reznor side that he was a bit of a phoney, ruthlessly ambitious, ungrateful and somewhat unpleasant - hey, I have zero idea how he's changed over the very long time he's been in the public eye, but I definitely imagined that picture was accurate for most of the early years.



I did read the auto biography in the day and it was amusing, clearly embellished, he obviously is no dumbo and has a sense of humour but also can imagine he could have been a real overbearing and tantrum prone type too.

Nerds are just as shitty as the popular people they see themselves as above/against, and just as capable of doing horrific things. Manson's performative victim complex here is also a testament to their ability to manipulate for pity.

Manson's painting style in general just sucks. Massively derivative of what Lynch was doing in the 90s and he never really progressed beyond that.

In the grand scheme his shitty art is far from the worst thing he's done. He'll likely never see justice in his lifetime, but his legacy will be forever tarnished. He should be in the ground, like all abusers, but no one is talking about this album, no major publications are reviewing it and it likely won't chart well. Manson is playing smaller venues and having to open for FFDP, along with that other Russian Nazi deathcore band. That's almost enough for me.
