The vocals sound like shit.
Except the screams. The Center's Falling Out is a highlight.

yeah not sure wtf is going on with the vocal processing on her cleans on some songs, it's fine on the pure pop stuff but sometimes gets very annoying on other songs - Vital comes to mind

Too bad cause besides that it's a solid record.

Might be a bit of a stretch, but regarding the title track's familiarity, am I the only one who hears a little bit of Celebrity Skin in it? Mostly in the beginning I think.

^^ Someone else mentioned this in this thread, so you aren't the only one!

Never listened to Hole before but yeah celebrity skin is spot on for the grungy verses. Now the chorus, I’ve decided it is mid 00s radio pop-punk ala (Avril/Paramore/Jimmy Eat World)

I'm SHOCKed at how much "they're all around us" or "New Way Out" is Fear Factory.

Until this week, I had no idea who Poppy was, had missed her whole YouTube run and excursion into music etc. When I saw random comments around the web throwing around terms like AOTY!!! and the like, I decided to check out a few tracks. Then I decided to get the record, and man...this is just an absolutely KILLER platter of music. I popped on the headphones last night, killed the lights, and had a good, proper eyes-closed listen.
Not sure who this chick is, but she crafts music that is deviously designed to capture people like me with its hooks and wall of sound distortion combined with ethereal dream pop. I like extreme metal and spacey pop pretty much equally, so I never really had a chance of not liking at least some of this material. The entire record is fantastic, and yes, I must consider it at least in the running for my AOTY. It's still really fresh and novel, so I will see how it ages over the next couple of months.

@BladeRunner been following her since 2012 when she was just making creepy youtube videos, wild to see how she has evolved over time. Glad she is getting some new fans onboard

Even in 2024. Saw her open for Avenged Sevenfold, and that was well before this came out. She absolutely fucking killed it.
Side note, surviving on defiance is Deftones worship and I’m so down for more of that

Surviving on Defiance and The Centers Falling Out are my meh tracks. Neither are bad. surviving is just boring and the center she has just done the chaotic stuff better before.
