we need to record a doom laden masterpiece built on the angst of album ratings frequently not appearing to relate to track ratings

There's something about this year though - I actually have all the top three albums of the year in the current Sput chart rated 3.5+...this never happens.

The other two are what you'd label if not 'sputcore' then at least 'sput typical'...but they're decent albums to give them credit

Frail Body was the annual #savingskramz act that everyone forgot about after the first month or two (only in part because State Faults blew them off the map)

just sputthings

State Faults has more going for it than the others, but otherwise that really does be a 3.5-only top two rows of chart

I need to revisit the State Faults, it might even be a 4.

The Pink Floyd worshipping Blood Incantation definitely has a 3.5 ceiling for me, not really my thing, but it is well enough done.

'tiers are always album-relative and ratings are not'

Figured this went without saying.

Apparently should've said it.

Not for me, tiers will work across albums - so for some albums there'd be no S, A or even B Tier, etc.

Free lipstick and eyeshadow for every tax payer

I can imagine a world with Robert Smith as it's collective leader would be a better place

'Not for me, tiers will work across albums - so for some albums there'd be no S, A or even B Tier, etc.'

This requires too much meaningless continuity for my tastes. "I was gonna put 'Endsong' in S tier, but do I really like it as much as 'Good Morning Captain' ?"

firmly with tec on this, implying there can be any level of consistent judgement of quality increments across all music is hard enough to maintain with reasonably spaced increments for albums, and joyless + delusional on a song level

rating all albums by the same metric is probably stupid
