Jesus actually came back a third time to perform the solo at the end of Rise Up. He's not credited because he didn't want the fame that comes with being in Sum 41.

not quite but feels like it considering how distracted I was on my first listen or two ;)
was rolling my eyes at first at the Paint It Black cover but tbh it went pretty hard lol. not sure if I have any notable complaints yet. awesome to see them go out on a bang after all the shit they've been through

Agreed. Nothing new, just Sum 41 doing them better than they have in decades. Lacking in depth, but brimming with bangers. (IMO, at least)

yeah, definitely spot-on there
there's a few tracks I'm still not too sure about (Dopamine especially) but for a double album by this band it's oddly consistent. the drumming is also pretty damn impressive at times

Dopamine was one of my immediate favorites =D
Agreed that this is *oddly* consistent (like why didn't they just churn out effortless bangers their whole career? lol) and the drumming is definitely a highlight
How do we feel about Radio Silence? It was immediately both my personal favorite and felt like the song that should close their career, feels like a massive anthem to me, but I could also see people hating it because it's chorus-centric and that chorus is just "light up the air", haha. But still, I can't help but love it.

Wow you're right, this is actually good. Kinda shocked.

"How do we feel about Radio Silence?"
that's the other track I have mixed feelings about, lmao. looks like our song ratings might be quite different, but I'm glad we can agree the three singles are proper jams

The three singles are jams but certainly far from the only ones. Still genuinely surprises by how consistently these songs all go. I could pick any of these at random and happily jam.

Landmines or whatever that one that's all over alt radio is is alright, doesn't quite bring the same summer vacationy rush of their early singles but whibley can still write a solid hook, probably prefer it a bit to the grungier mopier stuff they were doing on Chuck
|
| |
Strung Out's 2000s output is definitely worth checking for anyone who's into the thrash-lite riffing on tracks like Rise Up

I've always preferred this band's Chuck-like metal leaning output, so I'll probably check it
|

You really can't go wrong with any of them tho Agents of the underground is probably the most immediate from that era

“ 2.7 for underclass hero makes sense given its meandering and ploddiness but the averages for screaming bloody murder and 13 voices continue to baffle me since they're both at least 2 tiers above that shitheap in every single respect”
Probably because he spends nearly the entirety of Screaming Bloody Murder doing an, admittedly impressive, Gerard Way impression.

just ran my 35 minute route in about 25 minutes while jamming heaven, just unleashed the full potential of that album fuck yeah

will never understand the disdain Underclass Hero gets. it runs a little long sure but it's got some of their best songs on it

yea even in recently jamming them i still really like that album. walking disaster/speak of the devil, with me/pull the curtain and confusion and frustration have been sum staples of mine since i was like 12

"will never understand the disdain Underclass Hero gets. it runs a little long sure but it's got some of their best songs on it"
Well it was them going poppier and to be honest that's when I stopped listening to them. Their records until Underclass Hero were all bangers.
That being said, I did like some songs off of Underclass Hero.
Heaven and Hell feels like a good mix between all their songs, with a emphasis on their beginnings. It's amazing that they put out such a great record after all this time, yet kind of sad that this is their last.
Also, in the thank you notes, Dave Brownsound goes on apologizing for things he said in interview about bands he shared the stage with, any idea about what happended?

It's time for the cynical "I don't by it" comment.
They're not going to quit. It's a trick to get attention and it's working.
Honestly, If that's the case I agree with this initiative because even though I'm absolutely not a fan, I think their last records weren't welcome the way they should have and this double album is a good wake up call.
I mean, now that Burton C Bell has quit Fear Factory, the band received huge recognition online. It's pathetic. They weren't ignored for years and now everybody is praising them like hell. if people had done that in 2010, the band wouldn't have collapsed the way it did.
