I think the mixing could've used some work, too. Every time someone's turned up in the EQ, everyone else combines into a wall of noise at times.

After letting this sit for a while, I can’t say it’s as memorable as either of the first two, but there are some big riffs here (start of T/t fucking goes) and there is something really emotionally affecting about Dan’s performance here that’s been missing from that I don’t think I’ve heard from him before.

I'm a little torn on this album after ~4 full playthroughs.

On one hand, they dont necessairly do anything that hasn't been done before in here. Big parts of it are overproduced, especially like 75% of Dan's cleans. Most songs stay in a similiar territory without expanding too far in new directions

And yet with all of it it sounds exactly how p5 should have. No, I mean it, this album is like second best periphery album out there (right after p4 obv). While I see not everyone agrees with it, imo Dan is abosolutely killing it throughout the album managing to use his voice in one of the most flexible ways I've seen metal singers do on a single disc within last decade. And yes, the DJent is here, written with a capital DJ for how DJenty it is.

Strong contender for AOTY ngl, much better than anyone expected despite usual Tesseract issues.

Eh, Imma get back to listening to it

I don't see the comparison either

Legion might be my favorite here, Dan going unhinged is just fun. T/t is still just a collection of parts for me and doesn't really work imo, but some riffs are cool

the periphery comparisons, especially the new album comparisons, are dumb. they have never really shared the same vibe and they certainly dont now

My boys, I just finished a week of heavy drinking out on my holiday, all djent sounds the same (dum dudum dududum dum dudum dum dum) so go easy on me.

Still, the point about Dan's performance I'll uphold

Their best since Altered State for sure, but Dan's cleans make me miss Skyharbor badly.
