at the end of the first track and this is already one of the most evocative, emotional, breathtakingly melodic and atmospheric metal albums i've been lucky enough to hear.
man. horrendous's musical journey makes me no small amount of emotional. the chills was solidly 3/5, pretty meat-and-potatoes well-seasoned as they were. then they drop ecdysis, which is such a stark jump in quality it sounds like a different band entirely, THEN they drop anareta which is ANOTHER huge step up even without mentioning the shift in style and sound, and THEN comes idol swinging haymakers with every song flawlessly cosplaying what control denied would sound like with a harsh vocalist.
and now... we're here, with one of the very best intro-to-track-1 runs i've heard of ANY album in ANY genre. mindblowing.

"yeah when i saw it was only 37 mins I was kinda disappointed but god damn its an incredible 37 mins"
Imo the length is one of its strongest points. I wish other dm albums were of similar length.

As I get older, my attention span gets worse and albums above 45 minutes are pushing it

‘As I get older, my attention span gets worse and albums above 45 minutes are pushing it’
Not for me. Maybe I have less patience for when something is really not hitting the spot, or perhaps I just have (slightly) more conviction in my tastes, but overall it’s definitely dependent on the individual album
The length here works well, very little (if any?) fat and it wouldn’t necessarily benefit from being longer, even if we assume this imaginary material is all of comparable quality. The album flows well as it is.

Yeah, I learned from being grind/punk fan that oftentimes less can be more. Not in the case of something like Godspeed, but do what it takes to get the idea across and get out. 20 minute albums are really sweet when they do everything they need to do perfectly and just beg you to listen to them over and over again.

I imagine if you took the average length of my top 25 or so albums, it’d probably hit 50 minutes (at least), but yeah sometimes there’s a time and a place where a shorter runtime hits the spot, especially within certain genres
