Relinq, what's your take on Rosetta and Isis? I know you've probably posted something about them, but I don't think I've seen it.

Agreed. Even their last 2 albums were really good.

yeah i can see how people think panopticon is boring whatever opinions opinions but you can't hate
everything they made cuz celestial is a great sludge metal album
"lol stupid thats not 'sludge' " who the fuck cares I'll just laugh at that and move on with my day

Isis are good, but I'll take Cult of Luna over them any day.

Panopticon is probably my favorite PM album, even though as a whole they aren't my favorite PM band.
Neurosis is obviously the most diverse and consistent and influential, yadayadayada, but Rosetta have pretty much become my personal favorite.
CoL are really close though, seeing as SATH is up there with my favorite metal albums ever.
basically, they all rule, stfu and listen to them

ISIS were my favorite until I really got into Neurosis. Now they're both easily in my top 5, I really couldn't pick between them.
CoL is great as well, I just don't love them quite as much.
there are quite a few good-very good PM bands besides these 3 too, but it seems like so many people write the entire genre off because Neurosis exists so they trump anything else by far. which is somewhat true, imo, but it doesn't make everything else worthless.

yeah we all have our personal favourites
but the way I see it:
Neurosis > Cult of Luna > Isis > early Pelican/late Tusk > Rosetta > Callisto > the sludgier post-metal bands like Overmars, Lento, Year of No Light > ....
besides the first 3, ranking changes but it's been like this for years since Pelican was my first listen among them all and love everything they've done up til now, but the s/t/Australasia are brilliant. Callisto is up there cuz of True Natures Unfold and Noir. Rosetta had three great albums but didn't really feel the latest one as much, Tement Nosce is amazing though.

See, I don't like Pelican that much at all.
"Rosetta had three great albums but didn't really feel the latest one as much, Tement Nosce is amazing though."
For me, their albums are all pretty close. I definitely like their latest one better than Eternal Kingdom.

Gotta agree with Wolfe's statement about early Pelican.

The only think I'd heard by Pelican was The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon...
and it really turned me off to them
liking this song a lot, though. dat bass

First two songs and the ending on that one are nice. There is also a 20 min version of March To The Sea, which is way better IMO.
Also, Australasia.
And tbh I actually liked Wavering Radiant by Isis.
