Dreaming, Soldier Side and Holy Mountains are all good but they could've been great if not for the vocals. I just want to tell Daron to stfu half the time. The part in Holy Mountains where they screech "liar! Killer!" is almost song-ruining. Attack is boring, and She's Like Heroin, Lonely Day, Vicinity of Obscenity and U-Fig are all awful. This album is a mess.

Mesmerize has some bangers tho, Cigaro and Violent Pornography are just stupid fun, Revenga is up there with Question imo, and I love the Solider Side intro, then obv you got BYOB, probably their most popular song behind Chop Suey.

SOAD was getting so old when Hypnotize came out, 2 albums in one year was a lot and Im not upset they finished after this one.

And i agree that Daron Malakian did take more of the vocals during this era and not always for the best. The zanyness was cranked to 11.

The production is totally blown out too, it spits and fizzles and is an earache.

He doesn't do backing vocals on that song when they play it live from the performances I've seen. He also hasn't done any of his own effects switching since at least the early 2000s so there's that too.

Still a heckuva song to write and perform though.
