Float is the worst song on this. The best parts of this album are the moments that feel like the material result of having thought about the album as more than a stack of songs, the flowy little interludes—which aren’t necessarily “all the short tracks” nor yoked of necessity to certain structural maneuvers, but which there are an unusual amount of. Here’s what I told a non-sput discord:
“ It’s funny…obviously most logically it is linked with dirty computer because of the influence of hip hop inflections (cf float I DONT. GIVE A. FUCK A. Whatever you know—she raps on the first two albums, but not like big sean) and hip hop instrumentals and the casting away of Stevie wonder songwriting riffs and dense sci fi narrative (dirty computer kinda plays at the aesthetics of sci fi but yktv) and promotion of sex positive sorority but it’s moreso like the first two albums in the strengths of its evocation of thinking on the level of the album, how the thing plays front to back, what to do to make it more than just a bunch of songs. (The album is like Renaissance in its DJ-set effusion, but somehow defined both its relative brevity [32 minutes] and inclusion of considerably more filler.) It’s most of all like itself insofar as it pretty spectacularly synthesizes a bunch of non-American African diasporic and specifically Caribbean sonic influences and is breezy and light all the way. The album weirdly reconvinced me of her status as a consummate artist even though it isn’t that good and dirty computer wasn’t bad. B”

Sometimes Bobert be like “here is a carefully considered 30 paragraph essay about this here music” and other times Bobert be like “album is butts lol”

The Melon just described this as "an ad that is trying to sell you on sex" and I could be completely off on this, but it kinda feels like GenZ imagining what Prince sounded like to Boomer.

Yeah sex is cool, but have you ever ranted about an underwhelming new album on Sputnikmusic.com?
|
| |
this but unironically
|
| |
Echoing a consensus about an underwhelming new album on Sputnik is cool; but have you ever quadruple shit posted on an overrated new album on soutnikmusix.com in a thread where you are severely unwanted?

stop using the word obscure as though it holds any meaning for you beyond "not a p4k fest leftover from the last two decades and/or conveyor belt indie alb enjoying a token week's worth of manufactured hype"
|
| |
That’s a bit relative innit, most of them may be obscure outside of Japan but probably aren’t inside of Japan
|

is this a bit

noted underground musician shiina ringo

I doubt even Shiina Ringo is even a fraction as popular outside of Japan as she is there
|
| |
this might call for a list
|
| |
do it you won't
