Something that has been lacking from indie music the last few years (other than extremely recently with the energy in Gen-Z pop music) is angst, energy, and bite. When 2017?s ?Powerplant? by Girlpool came out there was a breath of new life into what kind of energy could exist in indie music that we have not seen in years. This new album from this Caroline based band really shows all the above-mentioned attributes as well as a true sense of fun and passion. The stylistic blend of raw slacker rock with the energy of indie rock adds so much texture and life to this new album. Not only that but the incorporation of country guitars and horns also adds an even more explosive and fun sound. I cannot recommend this album enough to those looking for a fun indie album for summer.

I don't think I ever told this story, but this album literally broke my ass. When it dropped in 2008 I went on a hike at night to jam it, and I wound up listening to it 3 times in a row in a secluded park while swinging on a swingset. It was a fantastic time. I wake up the next day and my ass cheeks are just destroyed. Pulled pork. Couldn't move for like 2 days.
Good times

Yeah, I'm obsessed with the vocals and the lap steel here. Unbeatable vibes.

Disappointed by this one. It's fairly good, and I like how intense and emotional it is, but there is hardly any melody to speak of, and its a little unpleasant to listen to.
Sounds like someone put Hop Along through a meat grinder.
Which is more a product of the genre, I suppose. I was still hoping for something more colorful and tuneful.

No melody? So are the vocals just not there? The lap steel leads? Idk, this may just be a disconnect on taste, but this shit is downright pop compared to a lot of stuff I listen to.

Chosen To Deserve is the most classic new alt-country song I've heard in years, so good

I just missed them an hour and a half away a couple months ago. Might try to catch them in ATL.

They were great the other week yeah. I think my show was a bit tamer than usual since Karly’s 90-year-old grandparents were at the show but still awesome.
